Communicating internal development to the outside coffee world: NKG Website Update and NKG Sustainability Report 2022

In our focus article, we already talked a lot about our values and identity, which are internally developed (and lived) in our group. As important as this is, we also need to promote what we stand for outside of our NKG world. This is crucial to connect with the global coffee community and strengthen our image of NKG through our external communication. Two mayor projects showing our changes and our vision for the future are our website update and our NKG Sustainability Report 2022.

Promoting the group’s unity through a more diverse approach: NKG Website Update

The ongoing efforts on the NKG’s Corporate Design update will be visible a lot more as of now: Our NKG website on nkg.coffee is online. Our new brand gradients and colors, a lot of big pictures with many faces, a bolder use of fonts and shapes: while you will immediately see that the design of the new website has changed quite a bit, you might look a bit closer to find out that we also restructured and revamped the content.

What is new?

As the content has grown over time, the “home” page  is now used as a landing page giving a better overview and serving as a key entry point to all content on the website. Depending on the website visitor’s need, the relevant info will be accessible quicker and easier. Also new is a sub page “about us” dedicated to our values and services only, which will lead you directly to an updated network page. Every group company now has a lot more space to present themselves with pictures, a description, and links to their website and social media channels (if available).

All in all, we believe that we can present NKG better as an international operating and interacting group, promoting the diversity of our international business. In the long-term, you will be directed a lot more often to the website. It will work as our leading communication channel: a lot of measures in other channels (e. g. Social Media, PR) will always link back to new content on the NKG website.

Taking responsibility now for the future: NKG Sustainability Report 2022

Just a few more weeks to go: the second NKG Sustainability Report will be published soon!

At NKG, we follow the vision of a sustainable future, where everyone along the coffee supply chain can make a good living from their work (more on that in our above-mentioned focus article). How do we want to achieve this? And what do we already do to shape this future? A first attempt to answer these questions is our NKG Sustainability Report, bringing together everything we do for a more sustainable future and to enhance the situation for people working along the coffee supply chain.

According to our Responsible Business Program, the report is structured in nine chapters, with each covering one of the objectives of the RBP. To enable a transparent traceability of the progress, KPIs are covered for each of the objectives (wherever possible and sensible). A special focus of this year’s report is on the groupwide Corporate Carbon Footprint.

After an intense period of data collection, preparation, and implementation since the beginning of the year, the report is now almost ready to be read. Thanks to all the participants from our group companies, who helped to fill in the data and did a really great job, it was a successful process. The data is concentrated on 2021 as the time frame, but also includes some updates from 2022.

You do not have to wait much longer, there are only a few weeks left until you can find the new NKG Sustainability Report here.

Interview with Christian Bothe

Christian Bothe started his career at roasting company J.J. Darboven. During his apprenticeship he realized how diverse coffee is. “Everyone knows it, drinks it, but knows so little about where it comes from, who grows it, what a coffee plant looks like. That was the trigger for me to want to learn more about this inspiring product.” Therefore he joined NKG in 2008 and his journey of discovery began. He started at InterAmerican Coffee in Hamburg. After 6 years at IAC Hamburg and a 3 month stay at IAC in the U.S., he had the chance to join Bernhard Rothfos in Hamburg in autumn 2014 – from trader to senior trader and recently COO.

Interview with Ana Wilks

Ana Wilks has worked for NKG twice, once as an assistant at NKG Statistical Unit for 5 years 1998-2003. After 10 years in commercial/trading roles at another trading company, she returned to NKG to head up the Statistical Unit. “My career has become full circle”, she says. As a Brazilian, she always had a connection to coffee as it’s the first thing people say when they hear the word Brazil. However, Ana didn’t start drinking coffee until she was at university and needed to stay awake overnight to write her essays!
